As the Founding Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Robert Mullis saw many people come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Robert Mullis, originally from Miami, Florida was attending the University of Florida when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour. At age 19, he left Miami to attend Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri where he graduated in 1961. He worked with a church in Texas for six months and then returned to Miami to serve at his home church for 4 months.
Led by the Lordto start an Independent Baptist Church, he headed to Leesburg, FL to do just that. At the time, there were four or five Southern Baptist churches in the area, but no Independent Baptist churches. "We started from nothing," Robert Mullis said, "and the rest is pretty much history. I didn't think the Lord wanted us any other place."
After founding and Pastoring Calvary Baptist Church, the church he founded more than 50 years ago, he preached his last message, as Pastor, on December 29th, 2013, on his 76th birthday. In January 2014, Pastor Mullis passed the "mantle" of Pastoring to Kenneth Dembeck who had been serving at Calvary for twenty-five years.
Pastor Mullis has now graduated to Heaven. He went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, November 27, 2017, at 12:45am.
Pastor Mullis' wife, Gay, still resides in Fruitland Park, FL.
